It's like what the preta path did to Naruto a long time ago, except madara somehow knows how to handle sage chakra.

When the preta path did it, it gained sage mode, except it couldn't handle it and turned into a statue, and Naruto was still able to regain sage mode after losing it

Most likely its because he had the Cells of Hashirama. He used that to absorb the energy from Hashirama and then it either automatically formed Sage mode because the DNA of Hashirama synched with the state (since it was just.transfered from one Hashirama to the other), or he simply copied it via Sharingan.

me neither,hashirama wasn't even in SM,he doesn't have natural energy in his body,yet magically madara takes it,just like that.
