amaterasu doesn't act as a defense, its an offensive jutsu. The only reason sasuke used it in that manner was because he thought he could scare him, but A didn't hesitate. I said this before, Sasuke would have been split in half with that leg drop.

The only reason gaara saved sasuke was because he thought he could save him from vengence, but sasuke being ignorant just laughed at him.
