It is only useful if you are trying to boost your smithing and enchanting skills to the max to get the best equipment.
Like my glass dagger does 167 base damage, and then it has 67 fire damage and 67 frost enchantments.
I am a jealous dude.

how does it help? the fastest skill for me to level is enchanting i just go to dwarven mine and take those machines crystal thingies then steal a bunch of usless stuff the enchant it. but can alchemy boost up your other skills? how?

Only temporarily boost them with potions I mean.
Like I make potions to boost my smithing for 130% for a while.
And I can make potions to boost my enchanting by 30% for 60 seconds.
That is why alchemy is useful. Other than that it isn't really good for anything.
