So here's my theory i said about last Tuesday.

hypothetically speaking, I believe that the Hyuuga branched off from the Elder son..
Aint he inherited Rikudou's eyes? So for argument's sake, let's us assume that Rikudou's eyes are originally the Byakugan then it mutated to the Rinnegan. The Elder SOn inherited the iriginal doujutsu rather than the Rinnegan.

Elder SOn having the Byakugan established. So his first clan were the Hyuuga... Not until he had a conflict with the younger son, got defeated and got his byakugan sealed - thus the spiral pattern, which is an Uzumaki fuinjutsu of the younger son.

His eye got sealed, compeling him to depend on his yet untapped powers - the Juubi essence. His hatred gave birth to the Sharingan.

This makes Kakashi's statement accurate - the Sharingan origins lie within the Hyuuuga.

Honestly, I did this hypothesis as original as I can.
Well, you cant please everyone.
And Im just a Hyuuga fan.

Their many ways after that to gain eye powers, mutation is one the Elder Son could have had a multiple wives and lovers as was the costume for leaders to have in the past. Multiple children could have created the Hyuga and the Uchiha blood line long ago.

And no the rinnegan. Isn't a mutation the sage had it first then the elder but the elder blood was diffrent. From his brother who isn't related to him and his father so yes uchiha/hyuuga are brother clans and so the elder brother the sages eyes meaning a similar dojustu

No eye powers? I highly doubt that. How could Rikudou possibly defeat or even have a decent chance of tackling something huge like the Juubi? I reeaaaally think he has a chakra-perception tool - BYAKUGAN

also the sage of six paths could have been uzumaki & hyuga or namikaze & hyuga.. or all three.

The Sage Created Ninjutsu and eye power is one form of Ninjutsu.
