The Hyuga clan is one of the most powerful clans in konoha, who specialise in Jūken or Gentle Fist style of hand to hand combat, which involves striking the 361 chakra points in the body with the users own chakra. The Hyuga clan also specialise in the Byakugan, the clans kekkei genkai. The Byakugan gives the user extended fields of vision, the ability to see through objects and the ability to see the chakra system.
The Hyuga clan is split in to two branches, the main house and the branch house. The main house runs the clan while the branch house protects it. When a member of the third house turns three a curse seal is placed upon them, this curse seal gives the main house power over the branch house as it can destroy brain cells with a simple hand seal. This is done to protect the secrets of the Byakugan.

Now, as far as we know of, there is no specific way of
"awakening" someones Byakugan. So it's assumed that all
Hyuuga just know how to activate it by nature. So go ahead and
activate your Byakugan and tell me a few things.

*I concentrate on the dummy with my Byakugan and focus on the chakra points, I then stretch out my index finger and my middle finger of both hands and gently hit a chakra point at the neck, heart and liver. I continue hitting the same chakra points over and over, each time hitting them faster and faster. Eventually when I am hitting them at a high speed I begin releasing chakra out of my fingers as I hit the chakra points, I continuously hit the same chakra points, releasing chakra each time I strike, making sure I am accurate yet fast*

like burn marks. That's how you know you've inserted your
chakra into it. Very good.
