Hyuga Neji [Appreciation Thread]
Hyuga Neji of Kohona's currant strongest and most noble clan was once regarded as the most prodigious genius among all the rookies of the Hidden Leaf. Scoring 4.5/5 in speed and Taijutsu and a 4/5 In ninjutsu and with three chakra natures, Neji stands out from the rest as the true talent. It's no surprise that he was made a jounin light years before the other rookies.
This was showcased in his epic fight with Kidmaru in part 1. This fight is [according to most fans] universally considered to be of the greatest example of epic hand-to-hand fights in the series. Kidmaru was probably the strongest of the sound 4. Orochimaru stated that Kidōmaru was the most intellectual member of the Sound Four which was witnessed in his fierce battle style and strategies. Kidomaru was an formidable tactical analyser, capable of figuring out his enemy's weak point quickly. Massive credit to Neji for knocking this guy out in style.
After this fight, Neji's character development stagnates to next to nothing. If Kishimoto sensai was a wise man he would have paid closer attention to annual character polls. Fans wanted to see more of characters like Neji. Instead he got ourselves an Uchiha fetish. No guessing why part 2 dropped in sales?
To add insult to injury, Neji's got nerfed in the manga on numerous occasions. The first example is his "fight" with Umazaki Naruto, who managed to connect just one punch in the entire fight or shall we say onslaught. Despite having all his tenketsu shutdown, apparently our MC was able to KO Neji Hyuga with one punch.
Unfortunately for Neji it get's worse. His surprise death comes as a result a fatal wound of a flying piece of wood. I guess Kishi sensai conveniently had over looked the fact that Neji is able to create a barrier from all 360 degrees around him at any given time. Neji could eject chakra from any tenketsu in his body as a means to slow down or impede incoming projectiles as demonstrated V's Kidmaru. What fck happened then Kishi?
Nevertheless Neji's death remains among the most touching moments of Naruto. He is a true friend and a great Niisan. Sacrificing himself for those whom he admires, much like his father, he was able to experience freedom thus freeing himself from the shackles of fate.
Neji is probably the greatest friend Naruto has ever had. Neji didn't agree that sasuke could ever be brought back but he risked him life for retrieve him anyway for naruto's sake. In his final act, he died protecting Naruto. Setting him up for life with a rich loving wife!
While Naruto may not see it, we think Hyuga Neji to the finest friend one could ever be blessed with in NV.
To the genius, who shall be remembered in the same breath as other childhood prodigies of Konoha such as Orochimaru, Hatake Kakashi and the 4th Hokage.
