Ok so this theory I have is based on the following factors:

God Tree
Kaguya
Juubi
Hyuuga
Chakra
Otosuki

Essentially what I believe is that:

Hyuga/Otosuki are descendants of the same people who all worshiped the God Tree / Chakra. Lets call them 'Group Unknown'

During this time there was a civil war between 'Group Unknown' which split this group into two or more smaller groups. During this conflict Kaguya took action and lead her people.

The reason for this civil war? They wanted to eat the God tree fruit! when it was strictly forbidden for anyone to touch it. This makes sense as naturally there will always be conflict in pursuit of power.

While this war waged on. Kaguya ate the fruit and became a God thus ending the war.

Because she ate the fruit and used the chakra. Kaguya, God Tree and Juubi all became one in the same for unknown reasons.

EXCEPT:

God Tree represented Life for mankind

Juubi represented Hate for mankind

Kaguya represented mankind truest nature.

Because of this the divided groups of the original people(Group Unknown) either worshiped OR Feared her as illustrated in the manga.

Those who feared her and followed tradition became Hyuga

Those who worshiped/envied her became Otosutsuki

This would explain why Otosutsuki follow Kaguya's path and why Hyuga choose to follow an archaic way of life WITHOUT wanting to gain chakra or become stronger outside of their clan traditions. This would also explain why they have branches and used seals to protect.

So in Short:

Otosutsuki were the original members of Group Unknown that wanted to utilize the Fruit Power
Hyuga were the original members of Group unknown that wanted to protect it and never use it

Thoughts?

But Kaguya wasnt human. andbthe filler arc about her almost counters your theory.
You say Hyuuga feared her but none in her time of being alive had byakugan except for HamHag. But overall nice theory.. want to read mine

I remember when Kaguya was first mentioned by Madara, he referred to her as a princess and theories were just everywhere.
I thought, Kaguya could be a good way to tie in the Hyuuga with the grand plot. Not involve them in the grand finale fight, just tie in their origins. It sucked when Kaguya was revealed to be an alien. It didn't only destroy my theory. It also ruined the ninja as humans context.

If kaguya was a human, she could have been that princess who possessed the Byakugan which at that time can be the most primitive chakra tool ever. Using the Byakugan, she assessed that the fruit would grant her immense power to stop the war. blah blah fast forward to her corruption and demise, her clansmen could be the lore keepers, aka the Hyuuga.
