Fire doesn't work against wood because one of the elements that makes wood is water. It's also why Sasuke's fire didn't work against Haku's ice, but I don't know why the wind that makes ice didn't neutralize the water. .... I don't know anything about elements.

Hashi's Wood Element would then be a combination of "Ground" and "Water" wouldn't it
