The anime is ending because the lazy ass creator loves to take his sweet time and the anime is almost caught up to the manga (like 10 episodes I believe). And since HxH is on hiatus in the manga we ain't gonna see no anime no time soon.

its ending for reals? like are you srs?
Yeah, it's ending >.>

The anime is almost caught up to the manga. Obviously, there must be a hiatus unless Madhouse want to create fillers (which I'm sure they won't since it will ruin the reputation of the 2011 filler-free version of HxH).

Dead ass. Hopefullt they'll pick the anime back up in the future. Ohhhhh I can't stand Togashi sometimes. They say being a HxH fan is a hard life....

Unfortunately yeah, it is ending with the end of the 13th chairman arc (episode 148). Megumi Han (voice of Gon) confirmed this.

The main reason is because the anime is very close to the manga and soon there won't be enough material to animate. The 1999 version of HxH faced this same issue and had to stop. The manga will continue though (currently on dark continent arc which is amazing btw), so I suggest you read it. The anime could have decided to create a filler arc, however I think Togashi wanted to leave the anime on a good note and possible continue it later on.

So if the anime returns (which I am confident it will, since this one was so popular), it will take at least 4 years or more to let the manga progress and have enough story to animate. Although the manga is back on a short hiatus, if there are more hiatuses it could take much longer for the anime to come back. When it does return, it may start from the beginning again like HxH (2018) or continue with the dark continent arc from HxH (2011).

Forget about hiatus x hiatus ...u won't be able to see it finish in ur lifetime. U_U
EDIT: And yeah, I should add....his earlier manga yu yu hakusho ended abruptly leaving several questions unanswered, and when he was asked about it in an interview he said that he didn't feel like continuing it any longer since he was bored, had lost interest and felt very lazy.....although indirectly.
He said he couldn't keep up with the schedule of jump and his drawings started to look like scribbles ( which is true even now).....so he decided to stop and in the future will write and draw with his own convenience.....and that is what we are seeing today in his attitude with hxh. U_U

The HxH 2011 anime isn't taking a break, it's ending due to lack of chapters for the next arc. Once Togashi makes 2-3 arcs +, then we'll probably see another HxH adaptation, which will most likely be in 2017-2019ish and they might start from episode 1. Technically, episode 147 is the last ep.
