Every time I see a post in the section I wonder if by some miracle a new chapter is in...
Someone told me anime is better than manga for this series but then linked me Hisoka's clips including his glowing crotch.... I am still not sure if the guy was recommending the anime and thought it would be a plus or trolling me...

Those are just memes XD.
Jokes aside anime is better in many sections as compared to manga except it doesn't animate the first chapter and a few parts of the hunter exam. One should at least watch all big fights they are really well animated.

That was good. All fights were very well animated, Netero vs Meruem, fights with Royal guards, fight with Genthru and the Yorknew city arc it perfectly captures the tension in the manga.
Chimera and Yorknew are must see arcs, though Chimera sometimes feels long but isn't a problem when one is marathoning.

It might be actually faster in anime and less annoying. I almost dropped the manga at chimera arc. It gets extremely tedious and has a very strong anti climatic feel for several characters after a lot of built up.

This. I heard the 1999 anime did a better job with the YorkNew arc than the 2011 series. From the clips I've seen on youtube, it looks a lot more darker than the 2011 version.
Are you ever going to pick up the series again? Try the 2011 anime from where you dropped it, most people watched the 2011 anime than reading the manga lol.

Actually, the 2011 anime ends on a good note. I guess he can view that as the ending of the series.

Then you should probably leave the anime alone.... why ? the narration is beyond stupid and will probably annoy you even more,
I though the narrator in LOGH is annoying but the one in HXH is even worse.

2011 remake, also the older version has worse quality due to being older, not atrocious but still. The 2011 continues the story where the older one stops. Also the series in general is pretty good, and detailed and the only bad thing is random and somewhat habitual hiatuses that togashi takes. Mind you that the manga can randomly stop and be gone for awhile. Would suggest the manga, but the anime does a good job too and I believe it sticks to canon pretty good.

Then you should skip it as it is a bit dragged in anime too and it appears more than manga, watch the important fights and moments which were cool or watch it on 8x speed xD. As for the characters I personally feel Togashi writes side character for an exposition they are visited, somewhat developed then written off and HxH is has this effect more than any of his other work and the reader won't usually connect with them.
I think Yorknew of 2011 is much better, 1999 one might feel better because of it's darker ambience but 2011 much better paced an animated, for me only hunter exam of 1999 was better. I haven't watched the full 1999 one but it did feel darker. But characters of 2011 are much better developed and closer to the manga, especially Gon who is characterised a bit differently and 1999 has some amount of filler in it. But 99 one is good in itself to give it a go.
