Those achievements are from individual nations. Here's the thing, you may have hope for humans progressing, but what about the rest of the world? Most people don't care for world peace, nationalism runs so high in people.

Pride in your country causes you to fight for it, that's what war is. That's why it will never stop. People will always fight for the country they are from, throwing there lives for it. And I'd be lying if i said i'm not one of them.

So how are you suppose to make peace? when country leaders fight, the people fight, when a tyrant steps in, people fight the tyrant.

Wars are not something anyone can stop by just wishing for humanity. So i disagree with you on that.
And when there is no one to fight.

its people who think like you who contribute to the war. If people actually tried to do something about the wars. They would stop.
Society has been brainwashed into thinking they cant do anything, that the government is in control, when in reality, we let the government control us.

There is no "we" there are various conflicting viewpoints that minimize change. Political parties, religious tension, it would only work if we were all on the same accord.

Peace can be achieved.

It would require a world order that is also a police state, and it must be socialist (or better yet communist).

If you read "the giver" you would understand what I mean.

Anyone who becomes different, like the protagonist would need to be removed immediately.
All of the books on an utopian/dystopian future and you pick "The Giver"? Not "1984", not "Fahrenheit 451", not "Do Androids Dream of Electric Sheep" not even "Brave New World"? For shame sir

Every person wants to be the best.

Every person has dreams.

Every person thinks differently.

Every person has a different opinion.

Every person wants to have more than another.

This includes everyone (EVERYONE), including me aswell. There's nothing we can do about it, Wether we say no or not we're all still quite aware of our ambitions etc..

This is why our planet will never change.

When I first replied I thought the OP was a kid in middle or high school, since it seemed he was only recently grasping the concepts that he spoke of, so I picked a lower level of literature that he might have been familiar with, but now I assume he may be older since I read the very bottom. Either way, those books tend to exploit the idea, reminding people that human thought and passion would resurface in any society.

Well that was deep....I feel bad for you man, but I would be lying if I said I understood what you were going through. We take a lot of things for granted in the U.S, we don't have to deal with those types of things over here anymore. In fact I can't say I've experienced war in my entire life, never lost anyone close to me from war for that matter either. Never experienced hating someone for taking the life of someone close to me. The show made me realize that nobody will ever understand another person if they don't experience the same pain and even if they do, people cope with it differently. If death ever comes creeping on your door though (which I hope it doesn't) I hope you can come to amends that the death is significant to you, even if it is only for a moment but maybe because of it you will inspire someone to change the world. Everyone is apart of the bridge to peace, don't count yourself out. Keep your chin up and try to do things differently that would lead to history repeating itself.

Well it's a very common topic, relatively easy to grasp.

I like to believe that peace would be possible, it would be extremely hard.

My main dilemmas are labor and sectionalism.
I've thought about this concept of peace. It is never possible to achieve absolute peace. You would have to make people so homogeneous that there would be literally no difference between them. Even then, someone wouldn't be satisfied and would start an uprising. Labor for what country?

Pride in your country does not have to manifest itself in fighting in a war for it. You can boost its economy by starting a business, research for public health, run for government, etc. Consistent and dedicated commitment to country can be made without going to war and killing people.

What you said about leaders of countries going to war anyway is very true. That's why we need to work really hard at implementing stable political systems that only about 10-20 countries have right now (US included) where we are safe in the knowledge our leader won't just "go to war".

And I don't propose we should stop wars by wishing it; rather by action that not only gradually makes them unacceptable and focuses on directing our nationalism toward better causes.

This year has been a weird year for me. I'm 16 years old, and like this whole year i've been going through a complete mind set change. About humanity, history, war and those type of things.

Thanks to my history class, we've been learning about so many wars. And my teacher is an amazing teacher, it's one of the classes i look forward to the most. Because its so interesting to learn about history.

One thing that has completely changed me is the thought that history repeats itself. I've seen so many examples of this that i can safely conclude it.

People will never achieve peace, i'm telling you its insane when you study this. These wars start exactly the same way every single time. When it's a civil war it starts with an uprising > revolution > civil war. Just look at Syria, 80,000 people dead and counting.

I'm from Iraq, and in my country has been war torn for almost 30 years. And it doesn't look like its stopping. It's sad to see my people, children and mothers crying over there dead son who died. This leads me into thinking that there is no hope for humanity. and there isn't. i can argue countless examples in history, which will repeat itself no matter what.

Humans love conflict, its in our blood. Blood is thicker then water. These ideas have changed me alot. A year ago i was a ignorant kid who thought the war in my country had to have someone at fault.

My mind contradicts itself alot, but one thing is for certain. Wars will always happen, so thats why i've given up hope for this world. And if Iraq gets into another civil war, i'll join my kurdish ppl and i'll fight till i die an insignificant death. because thats exactly what will happen, we'll all die an insignificant death.

edit: this is not my thinking on a whim, i've been thinking like this for the past 6 months and it hasn't changed. And i'm not depressed or anything, these are just my thoughts.
At least you've realized at a young age that the human race is self destructive.

The idea of a homogeneous world is impossible, because the means of production require human intervention. With humans having jobs, or unpaid labor, we would still be left with a human who now has an identity. For example: (highly simplified)

Lets say we have a commune in North America, some laborers produce potatoes, some produce corn. We now have separated our "homogeneous society" into to halves, potato farmers and corn farmers. Naturally a corn farmer will make friends with other corn farmers and will share a common pride of his/her occupation. From here things only get worse, now these corn farmers can look at the potato farmers with jealously, because they have easier work, or with distaste because corn is better than potatoes or whatever. Now we have a feud/rivalry of two major groups.

I had an idea that to remedy this we could have instead of communes, some sort of village system, where everyone within a particular village is unaware of any life, job, race, or climate than their own, and each village would create one essential product. But even there, someone would be needed to handle imports and exports, question of the origin of these foreign goods would surface, meaning that all food and products handling would need to be automated. There would also definitely need to be a faith system.

I kind of know where you are coming from. I'm 17 and my perspective changed about everything in the span of a couple of months. People have always told me I was smart but I have a terrible work ethic, so I changed that over the summer and now I'm an honors student. But along that way led me to some other conclusions, based all on my observations over time, a cyclical formation if you will.

Situation 1: I played the Mass Effect series for about the majority of the summer. While I was immersing myself within the universe I took hold of a controversial subject that has some merit to it regarding the human conscious and "organics" as a whole. This was the ending of Mass effect 3. In a nutshell basically, you fight these massive constructs called the Reapers. They claim to be "the final evolution" and this genocidal cycle must continue in order to preserve organics (ala Humans for example). It turns out, they are controlled by an Overlord intelligence called the Catalyst. It's main goal given to it by its creators; the former Apex race of the galaxy was to secure stability between Organic and Synthetic Life because this Apex race was always enthralling other races and they would end up getting massacred by their own creations. It came to the conclusion that to further advance themselves, Organics would create synthetics, but by the law of nature, the created will surpass their creators. Seeing this as a meticulous complex, the Created would rebel and destroy their creators, hence the need to preserve Organics. It believes that there can never be coexistence between Organic and synthetic life. This directly relates to human nature and the concept of peace. This non-existent concept that will never happen because of humanities dispositions as a greedy race.

Situation 2: After getting obsessed with Mass Effect, I decided to delve into the world of Astrophysics because of its direct linkage to Faster-than-light Travel. I had to teach myself all the concepts over two weeks to understand the premises of these articles. Needless to say, I was shocked. Many people are skeptical at the concept of FTL Travel even though the human race has been in this situation before... 100 Years ago, people were preaching on how flying in the air was impossible and there is no point in attempting to break that barrier of inevitability. Well, through human curiosity and ingenuity, we did it. And we subsequently broke through the Sound Barrier, something they also said couldn't be done. The same skepticism was applied to this as it is being applied to the concept of FTL travel and it bludgeons me to no end. People have no faith in our race, for no apparent reason. There is a lot to be mad about (Politics, war, the Governments etc.) but you have to give the benefit of the doubt to your own race who proved itself wrong a century prior. It honestly baffles me...

There is so much wrong with our race, but so much potential at the same time. We are blinded by our own disposable nature, the thirst for power, greed, dominance. That's just the normal for the Apex Race of Earth. I hope one day, whenever it is, we can see past all the forthcomings of our race and look towards a bright future that is completely free of human need for greed... But until then, bear with it man.

There is no solution for imediat result on this life, we can only do individual choices and be responsable of ourself.
Can we find peace on this earth? Maybe when human will deserve it.At the moment we don't deserve it.Just look how is everything the pollution,man/woment relations, children that are formated in school etc...

Look in Japan if they failled at study they failled their life, that's why there is the most suicide in Japan, it's big culture Japan but since the 2 atomic bombs they put their feet in modern capitalism (jungle laws) and we see results.Decadent society, population getting older etc..
If we decide to be part of the good people we must accept to do it for a creator that will judge it and not for a result.

Because if you're honnest, moral, respectable in this world you are loser because this world is based on inverse for exemple we must be ambitious, greedy, lier, manipulator like in marketing. How will i force you to buy this product? despite you don't need it i need to creat this need. The world is governed by these value.

The moment that we pass on earth is an unique experience, if people had this sensation that it's an unique experience they'd do all to be part of the good people.but people says themself either it's not unique experience or i can repair the damages later, poeple take it too lightly. For exemple with polution. If people were conscious that we had only 1 earth they'd act otherwise and when it will be ****ed it will be ****ed .But There the people are in the Wallt disney syndrome we even see that with economy .Basically we let the debt at our children and so...

There is a great individualism .This individualism has been feed by the education that we received for make us savage capitalists.Union isn't good for capitalism for exemple man/women relations. They're happy of all these divorces. When madame quit with childrens, avocat, she'll rent an other apartment, new assurance, new electric meter etc...read "the fable of the bees" you can find on google. It says that vice ,disunity is very good for economy. And a moral , united, solidary society that doesn't damage the nature is very bad for economy.

I understand what you're saying.
War has exist since the dawn of man and has continued to do so because we allow it.
As long as greed exist, so will hate which breed war.
Countries speak of peace, yet they prepare for war - to me that is TOTAL HYPOCRISY.
If one man, a kin, a race or single country tries to obtain peace, that selfish desire will cause war.
True peace will be obtained when there is a coordinated effort by all mankind to strife for and maintain
a single way of thinking. Well that and divine intervention.

Remember this, If you have lost hope, then you will soon lose sight of yourself.
