Huge confusion about Edo sealing technique

How does the sealing techniques on edo work?

Since we know that sealed ninjas can come back to life (as in case of Kinkaku and Ginkaku coz a dead person has no chakra), the seal does not destroy the sealed ninja. My question is:

- Does the seal act like a prison and hold the prisoner as long as the seal is intact? (and once the seal is removed, the prisoner comes back to life)

- or does it turn the prisoner into a dead body again wherein they can only come back to life if resurrection is used (i.e. there body can now be destroyed to ensure no one in the future can resurrect them)?

It keeps them imobilised untill edo tensei is turned off, exept for the sort that suck out their souls like shiki fujiiin and Human Path.

Since Kabuto stated that he does not need to be alive for edo to work, we can assume that the jutsu will be cast for infinite period. This means that most of the shinobi can be resurrected just by removing the sealing tag. What I want to say is that the sealed ninjas should be guarded by the most able ninjas so that no one revives them again. However, if people with good intentions such as Asuma, Dan or Chiyo are revived, what harm can they do since they cannot be controlled by Kabuto anymore?
