[Discussion] How's Canada? Anyone live there?

My gf recently got a job offer to Canada and she's moving and I want to move as well. I have a couple of questions and I just need personal opinions!

1. How is the climate in Toronto?

2. Is the pay good for Orthopedic surgeons or am I better off staying in Australia?

3. Are the people friendly there? Be honest please

4. Can I use the degree I got in Australia or do I have to complete practice in Canada again?

5. I love cold weather so how is the weather in summer?

6. What are the main things to do for fun in Canada? I know I can't go to the beach because it's cold lol

7. What are the prices to buy a house? Let's say a 3 room house in a nice neighbourhood, will I be able to afford one in Toronto?

8. How's the crime rate in Toronto? I know Canada is one of the best countries but it's better to be safe than sorry

9. How does the healthcare system work? I've been told it's one of the best in the world.


I'm too lazy to search all of them up so I need some PERSONAL opinions from people that live there. If you don't live there but still visited, feel free to reply. Thanks!

Understandable. I just don't want to make a childish decision that I'll regret. I've always wanted to visit Canada though..

Always better to visit a place before making that kind of move.

Would be highly idiotic to move somewhere you have never been or know little about.

That's what I'm planning to do. I also need personal opinions for living there long term, even if I visit for a holiday I'll only be there for a couple of weeks.

Don't worry about it, I've got a lot of time to think about it.

no offense but u are to lazy to search for info which can change ur life , so u try find answer in naruto base forums full of kids trolls and people who have no clue about canada (im not saying all nb is like this but there is alot people like that) , if u realy thinking about going into another country u should search info in trust worthy forums and websites .

You'll be surprised. I've tried heaps of forums and yahoo answers, compared to those sites NB has the least trolls.

I'm taking a vacation to Canada soon so I'll know what to do, but you are right.

It's because surgeons don't have a fixed pay in Canada like they do here in Australia. The way they get paid is completely different and I need someone who is in the medicine field to give me advice.
