The people who wanted it would start blowing up the forum with threads about kids they will never get to see cuz the series is ending.

The people who didn't want it will continue to ship the other pairing they wanted, and probably in general would not care about it. Shipping is a normal thing most animes who never show pairings get anyway if someone likes a pairing they are gonna ship it even if it's not cannon.

I think Hinata deserves some recognition for everything that she has done for Naruto.

Naruto wouldn't have been driven to beat Neji if Hinata hadn't gotten beaten so handily. She has also saved (or at least tried to save) Naruto at least twice.

Hinata has done so much more for Naruto than Sakura ever has.
