It's already been stated before...but I have some things to add to Obito=Tobi Argument. This does not however mean that Tobi still can't be someone else.
From Kakashi Gaiden the only thing we knew is how Kakashi got his sharingan, Obito was fodder, Rin was the "sakura" and that the 4th was Kakashi's squad leader. We thought the whole story was supposed to be about Kakashi but now it seem's that that's been proven wrong.
From this picture we find out about the starting of Obito's journey. He wanted to become a Ninja, a kid full of hope, he wanted to prove his worth as an Uchiha, and comes late, but he meets the girl he likes and is happy by this...
Obito in a some sort of Squad battle, getting ready to show off his "Uchiha" power in front of the girl he likes and the teammate who puts him down.
As the Chuunin exams pass, and teams get disqualified, Kakshi Obito and Rin make it through. Obito "is a good boy" as shown on this page. He's helping an elderly woman with groceries...nothing big, but shows that he indeed had a good heart.
Get's his ass handed to him, and Rin being a medical Ninja helps him heal. He shows off his Uchiha crest which shows that He's a proud Uchiha.
Continues to show Uchiha Crest with fade into Hokage Monument with 4ths face on it. The 4th Hokage- Minato- had probably been already chosen by now. He imagines his face in it, and states that he will become the 5th Hokage. A dream he shares with the protagonist of the whole Naruto Universe.
Him Practicing for his fight against Might Guy. He is training hard, but will hard training be enough to win.
Get's ass handed by Might Guy in what appear's to be a single shot. He's visibly frustrated as he really, really wanted to win, especially in front of Rin.
Here it seems that Obito hates Kakashi. He wants to be better to him as Kakashi is stealing the spotlight from the girl he likes. He is getting angrier, sadder, and more depressed.
His "test of love" while trying to confront Rin I suppose, has flowers ready, but right when he's about to go and tell her about it, she comes with a really depressing note.. that makes Obito even sadder.
This note, was the last known thing to happen between Obito and Rin before his last mission. He never got to confess his love, he never got to surpass his rival, he was a dissapointement as an Uchiha, he was dissapointed in himself.
From the latest chapter we get a completely different side from Uchiha Obito. Other than the fact he was a fodder, he had dreams, he had a rival who he seemingly hated and wanted to surpass at the same time. Kakashi was the biggest ***bag to Obito until the moment of his death. Rin was a bit*h to him after seeing how "cool" Kakashi was. Everyone was forgetting about his feelings, and treated him like a tool. Maybe Minato didn't, but as a teenager, you get more affected from your friends actions, not your mentor's.
He was the Naruto of the Squad. He was seemingly shown and perceived as a loser. His abilities were deemed inferior to Kakashi's. The same way Naruto was to Sasuke and Naruto was to everyone until he had something to fight for. Obito and Naruto are similar in many ways, both wanted to become Hokage, both are underestimated, both want to prove they are strong to the ones they loved. But Obito was stepped on even more since Kakashi was known as the son of the white fang, younger than him, and was looked upon as a "fodder uchiha" who didn't even unlock his sharingan.
Kakashi, was the Sasuke. Egotistic ninja with serious superiority issues.
And Rin was the Sakura. The Ninja who liked the cool elite, while ignoring the one who truly admires here not for how she fights, but for who she is. Obito truly loved Rin, and Naruto truly loves Sakura.
Now where did Obito's path go wrong? Well he seemingly died as a good hearted shinobi, he liked helping people, he was late because of that a lot. But Obito's hate towards Kakashi was there throughout his whole life. The moment in Kakashi Gaiden only happened because of his death, and Obito wanted to make sure Rin wouldn't die, and was believing that he would indeed die, having a half crushed body, and giving his sharingan to Kakashi as his "gift" for becoming a Jounin. Obito was thought to be dead. But indeed he was not. We know tobi has "rock style techniques" so would that mean that Obito also had an earth Nature Chakra and got out of under the rock himself? It's certainly a possibility. He could have also been saved by Madara but had a completely deformed face so Madara gave him a mask to wear. Madara gave Obito the knowledge of the Hidden Lead foundation, and the upcoming betrayal of the Uchiha clan, as well as what the Uchiha clan did to him. Obito lost his faith in wanting to become Hokage, he didn't want anything to do with the leaf, so Madara's will has been entrusted to Obito. The last probability is that his body is either being used by an Orochimaru-like Jutsu or that he isn't Obito at all.
We won't know for sure, but I'm just trying to point out that this latest chapter was not trying to show that Obito is Tobi, it was trying to show about how Obito could be Tobi. He had ambitions too, he had dreams, to become Hokage, he was a proud Uchiha, but like with most things, everything good has to come to an end... Obito dissapeared not confessing his love, not achieving anything in life but being a burden, he was a dissapointement to everyone including himself. He was a good person though, liked helping people and was honest, but the girl he loved like the person who resented and wanted to surpass the most. Obito's actions in Kakashi Gaiden are completely different as he wanted to show and prove that there's more to Ninja's than code. They also have feelings, including his own, which he was never really able to express.
