How to use Gimp 2.8

I downloaded Gimp 2. I started watching tutorials and made sure that I searched the right Gimp version and I did, but the people who had made the tutorials had a different looking Gimp version. If anyone has Gimp 2.8 then please link me the tutorial they saw or whatever. I'm completely new to this this editing program thing, I don't even know how to make a rectangle shape to make a signature. :sy:

It's a editing program, so you can make some really cool stuff such as avatars and signatures.

Look under the Window menu and untick the Single Window Mode option. Then it should be more or less the same as the old one.

Dude I started gimp and just gave up, just got photoshop cs6 xP. Sorry for the off topic post but imo, you might wanna get an earlier version of photoshop free.

To make a rectangle as you call it just go to File new and enter the size Avatars are 150x200 and Sigs I reccomend 400x150

You don't know how to make a simple canvas?! I HIGHLY suggest you look up the BASICS. :\ They're all on the Gimp website.
