It's pretty hard in reality. After adolescence our main life experiences have already done their work in shaping our perspectives and natural amount of bias is just going to be there. The only real way to be more open minded is to make a personal mandate that you will attempt to enter scenarios looking at multiple angles. The mandate has to also include trying new things and so on.

The pros are fairly simple; you enrich yourself with more knowledge than you would have had you kept your mind closed. Other than that, meeting people with a nicer viewpoint helps in building stronger relationships.

Cozman summed it up.

It's being able to see things from a different perspective.

There's no such a thing as open mindedness.
Each race has a different culture that is in some instances the complete opposite of other race and they live according to their cultures and customs.
That's why Races are separated in different geographical areas.
Blacks cannot live with Whites and browns cannot live with yellows, Christians cannot live with jews and muslims cannot live with Christians and vise versa. Everyone has a distinct cultural, mental and physical makeup attributed to their distinct genetic groups.
And forcing the so called open mindedness aka tolerance aka political correctness down people's throat is just the complete opposite of Nature.

The question you should ask is: Be or Not to Be!

ask whether something is written in stone or open for interpertation.

everyone who says that religion is only bad is close minded, and everyone who says that religion is only good is close minded, likewise everyone who says that science is only bad is close minded and everyone who says that science is only good is close minded.

being open minded is to not take things for granted and accept a multitude of diffrent opinions.

Being open minded isn't really that difficult.

When you are growing up you began to collect and are taught different beliefs that you take with you thru life, and you believe that what you believe is the right way of looking at things (sometimes the only way). These cultural beliefs that you carry with you is called a PARADIGM. A paradigm is simply a collection of cultural beliefs.

The first step of becoming truly open minded is to recognize that you have a paradigm, and to understand that everything you THINK you know or everything you believe may not be the only way to look at something. Be willing to accept others opinions and views for different situations.

A wise man once said "Your mind is like a parachute, and if you keep it open you will land safely in any situation. But if you continue to keep it close, you will fall quickly and cause great harm to yourself."

Look up Bob Proctor "Paradigms" on youtube. It will really change your life. It changed mines.

Im sorry, but what you stated is far from the truth. I personally am a Black guy, but my mother and father are white. We get along perfectly and they have taught me great lessons in life.

Skin color, religion, and politics (CULTURE) have nothing to do with it.

Accepting everyone for who they are and being able to accept different views is how we advance ourselves as human beings. Radical Openess is a great example of this. Martin Luther King probally had cultural difference with many of the white, latino, and even muslim people in America. Yet when he marched to washinton every type of person came with him to hear his words. You sir are very close minded yourself if you think skin color, religion, or even politics is a great reason for people not to accept other people for who they are.
