How to avoid 8th Guy's attacks? ( Except FTG and Kamui )

Regarding the whole Madara vs Gai, Lee, Kakashi, Minato, Gaara and people being able to match Gai's speed or see him:

I think even though they said ''dont stop'' to Gai, he still could hold back a bit/decide not to hit Minato, due to Minato being a friendly target, yet, he listened to the ''dont stop'' by continueing to move in a straight line to Madara. Dont stop as in dont cancel your attack against Madara. Keep moving forward. With this letting Gai know that they would take care of any counters for him.

Minato knew what Gai was about to do (attacking Madara who was shielding himself) and so did Lee, Gaara and Kakashi, which makes it easier for them to time their abilities and prevent counters vs Gai, compared to if Gai would have been an enemy target, from who they didnt know what he was gonna do.

Madara was shielding himself after taking some heavy dmg from Gai's elephant attack (he couldnt do much else right than except shielding, due to taking 4 elephant attacks in row) if my memory serves me right. They knew were the target was that Gai was moving to as well, the shielding Madara.

Obviously they (Minato, Kakashi, Lee and Gaara) must be able to see something in order to assist Gai.
When Madara shot the Gudodama, they must have at least been able to see those (they are faster than Obito's Kamui speed with 1 sharingan, so that is quite fast), in order for Lee and Minato to stop them and they need to be somewhat aware that Gai was still behind the Gudodama.

If I am not mistaken, Gai at the chuunin exams, was able to see Lee in 5ft Gate and follow his movements (Gai lacks special eyes or sensing), and some genin kids couldnt. So when people get older, its possible that their eyes can track fast movement better. So people being unable to track a 5ft gate lee as kids, doesnt have to mean that they cant see someone faster, when they are older or more experienced.

There are even some people like Deidara, who somehow managed to train their eye to counter sharingan genjutsu.

The thing is, even if you can somewhat track a gate user, being able to react to an attack from them against you, is something else. Your body needs to be able to keep up too. Keeping up (as in assisting, what Minato, Lee, Kakashi and Gaara did) with a gate user who isnt attacking you seems easier to me as well, than getting attacked by one.

If you know what is gonna happen (Minato, Kakashi, Lee, Gaara), than it is easier to prevent it from happening (its not truly matching the speed of Gai imo) than when Gai would attack you.

Anyway, what can avoid Gai's attacks:

8th gate .
Shielding yourself with Gudodama.
Multi shadowclone jutsu (outlasting Gai).
Limbo Hengoku.
Kaguya's Dimension shift.
Fleeing through methods (like reverse summoning, FTG or some other fleeing method).
Hozuki clan water form.

I am not sure if Chakra avatars can block 8th gate. I have seen non-perfect Susannoos get broken from punches by Raikage and Tsunade. By windattacks from Danzo. Melted by Mei's boil release.
The explosion between Naruto and Sasuke their attacks destroyed their avatars (special 3 headed Kurama avatar and perfect bijou mixed Susanoo from Sasuke).
Maybe 8th gate could punch a hole in it too.
Who knows.

One can wonder if you can actually cast genjutsu on someone in 8th gate, who's chakra is moving around that violently. Maybe you cant control chakra like that.

The except part of the title:
FTG works indeed I believe (you can teleport around fast enough. You dont have to wait till you see Gai attack to teleport. You can teleport in advance).
Kamui as in the intangible version only I think. I am not sure if you could actually Kamui Gai.

How exactly did guy know what minato was gonna do. He didn't hear or see the plan.

The point of minato telling him not to stop is because guy didn't know what was happening, so that when minato did appear infront of him, guy wouldn't panic or be confused at the situation.

So when minato did pop in, guy then understood why minato told him to keep going straight away, and therefore didn't deter or put off guys assault at all.

8 Gate is a failure just look at Guy in a wheelchair for life and a foot cast.

Considering you're suppose to die after using the 8th gate, I think the fact that Gai managed to nearly kill Rikudo madara when no one else could even touch him at the time, and is alive to tell the tale, is a sign of success U_U



OT: I think a S/T + extremely high reflexes (like 5 in the databook) would be the only way to counter 8th gate. stopping it doesn't really seem likely as stacking hits in extremely quick succession will pretty much topple any defense in the NV.

I think things like Kamui, Flying Tunder God, and Sasuke's S/T jutsu are the key to avoiding the Evening Elephant and Night Moth. But it will be extremely difficult to pull them off as Gai is moving at incredible speeds during 8th gate.

Some anticipation of movement in conjunction with S/T (as well as luck) is the only way I see avoiding this...at least until the 8th gate runs out. Even then...

if you don't have some tanking skill to withstand a few of those hits.....you are pretty much screwed.

EDIT: I forgot to take in account Doujutsu. Sharingan in particular maybe even the Rinnegan. Sharingan's precognative abilities allow to see a user moving at speeds even as fast as 8th gate but still fast reflexes are still going to be required to actually counter/avoid such high speed attacks.

Kamui would be best seved for this scenario (even though the OP said excluding this) as you are simply not there to be hit.

Rinnegan Deva Paths Shinra Tensei and Bansho Tenin could be handy if used properly to shield yourself or repell Gai from you. And of course there are always edos who can just tank the damage until 8th gate runs out. That's all I can really think of.

Gai didnt know exactly what his teammates would do exactly, but he knew they would allow him to continue without getting stopped by counters from Madara, because he was told ''Gai dont stop''.

What stops Gai from kicking the air up towards the flyer (from the ground)?
That elephant air cannon is so fast, most flyers wouldnt be able to dodge it (them being not fast enough).
Madara and Naruto are exceptions but people like Deidara, Onoki, Sai and such would be hit hard I think.

Compared to flyers who spend next to no energy flying gai has to constantly waste energy kicking the air.

That elephant air cannon is so fast, most flyers wouldnt be able to dodge it (them being not fast enough).

This depends on the scenario, if the flyer is already in the air they can gain enough distance where they would notice the attack, & since it's not considerably large it wouldn't be that difficult to move out of the way at that point.

I was mainly referring to JJs or people in the top 10 & their abilities to fly, since many people like to say that 8G gai > juubito or DMS kakashi which is false for this very reason.

okay i read hazo vs indra until page 2, what i can say about it, is that both people are partly right.

first off, indra:

that about seeing lightning form and lightning appearing in front of you is right.

but you kept saying 8 gates guy to the gai that broke his arm and some ribs in 7th gate (where lee jumped in).

but i can agree with your last posts.

your posts are nice, and they have facts in them, but you are forgetting that the gai who fought jin madara had used 7th gate and its attack 3 times and more. also gai fought with a broken arm and ribs, so this wasn't the full potential of gai, and as this thread is about how to 8th gate's attacks, i assume that those counters are meant for 100% of 8th gates's power/ speed, but the 8th gate speed that we saw wasn't near gai's full speed.

in gai's first moments of entering the 8th gate, he suprised madara by appearing in the air, madara blocked his attack then.

but when minato did his teleportation in sage mode, which is supposed to make the person even faster, madara chopped off his arm, so is minato really faster than a extremely weakened gai?

I would venture to say that Tsunade's regenerative abilities would allow her to tank a good amount of shots. But of course, the only good defense is a strong offense.

As for Orochimaru, we've seen him get his throat sliced open and just pop out fine. The thing about Orochimaru is that he doesn't regenerate his old body, he completely replaces it, and we don't know how many times he can do that. It could only be once in battle or it could be forever if he wanted too. Also, believing Orochimaru would fight Gai straight up goes against what Orochimaru's own style of fighting is about. He usually plays dead then strikes back. I believe he'd allow Gai to smash him into the ground, wait for Gai to power down, then pop out of his old bodies mouth like he always does.
