How the mizukage trolls

How does the trollkage's genjutsu work? It's suppose to show mirages. can the mizu's genclone attack; or is it just for distraction? maybe it's both. his justu just leave me wondering how all other genjutsus works.

The clam releases a mist which causes a genjutsu to envelop the area inside the mist. Not only does this obscure where the Mizukage is, but also where the clam itself is, causing the target not to know even where to strike to end the genjutsu, thus requiring a high level AoE fuuton attack to counteract it.
