How strong was/is Moriah?

And by Moriah, I mean his strongest form Asgard Moriah.

How did he get the title shichibukai if he's really that weak?

Strength alone isn't everything in order to become a Shichibukai. Look at Buggy.

Moriah's title of Shichibukai was poor judgement on part of the WG.
On the plus side he did get rid of a lot of pirates and that was part of his job. So at least Moraih did his job

Buggy has numbers, but Moriah rolled solo when he was made Shichibukai :| Remember? His crew got slaughtered by Kaido

as said above, Strength is not 100% needed to become a Shichibukai. Look at Law, even tho he is strong, the only reason he became one is because he gave the government 100 pirate hearts.

Buggy became warlord because of false hype and his sovereignty.

His followers were one of the most deadly pirates in impel down level six.

There's strength in numbers and during the war, Whitebeard himself thought dealing with Buggy's followers as also troublesome.

Now you cannot say the same for the rest of the warlords, especially after what Kaidou did to Moria's crew yet still gaining/maintains such status.

I suppose he was the best they could get at that time. Or they just seriously overestimated his ability.

Is that true? I always thought he became Shichibukai during the time he started creating his Zombie army :|

Maybe so, I really don't know but Cavendish or other upper generation of warlord's colleagues could of been suggested.

How strong would you rate Asgard Moria btw?

Which character would you compare him too?

I assume if he'd absorb as many shadows as he did on Thriller Bark, he could give the likes of Boa Hancock or PTS Kid a run for their money or even possibly beat them. Maybe he could beat 2-3 Pacifistas aswell?

Now, I know that an already weakened and exhausted Luffy beat him, but then again Luffy could tank Moria's punches thanks to his DF and I doubt that "normal" people would be able to handle those punches as easily.
And you can't really count that time when Jinbei negged Moria at Marineford, since Moria only absorbed a handful of shadows there.

So yeah, I don't think he was that weak.

That's interesting and I do agree.

Moria using Oarz or a strength of a thousand shadows is very powerful physically.

I never thought about him beating Boa Hancock though, can he?

I figured that Moriah at his strongest is at the same level or slightly higher than an vice admiral.

One thing I did notice was the haxx of his devil fruit.

His Doppler ganger makes it useful against strong attacks and he can escape from any trouble if using it.

He escaped from Kaidou and he escaped from doflamingo with about twenty PX's.

He is not weak , bet he was strong when he faced kaido but he became weak after the defeat .. He also lost his crew anyone would get a trauma from that he stopped training or something !

Wait untill he shows up again in the new world to see his real power !

Honestly, I feel like Boa is only dangerous in CQC with her petrifying kicks etc. Moria's fighting style revolves mostly around his shadow shenanigans, like the clone thing you mentioned. I don't think that Boa can do anything to him. I could be wrong on that one though.

I don't think he's returning to the new world after what he said to luffy.

I just want to know how strong he really is if he's not weak.

That's true

He made sanji's diablo jambei head kick futile.

I guess his shadow gekko spear will be of use in long range attacks too.

Moriah was stronger before Shadows Asgard, he overdid it. Base Moriah would still beat Franky. If he used Asgard well and didn't become too large to move he'd probably be on par with the current M3
