story got derailed.
the real reason why it was hype because Neji was the main focus of Naruto's rivalry while Sasuke was Naruto's objective.
Neji and the Hyuga got all this background info thrown at us, the audience, that when Naruto's rivalry ended, it shifted to Gaara then to finally Sasuke.
Having a rivalry with Gaara, we learned more about the tailed beasts and their jins. But in doing so the whole notion of Hyugas fell behind.
Then the same thing happened when Naruto befriended Gaara. The focus then turned to Sasuke and the whole Uchiha story got convoluted as it went.
I think it was suppose to just stop at Itachi but the whole Akatsuki mess happened and people just kept on pushing the story till we got Pain. Then Tobi ended up becoming the mastermind which ta-da! It is Madara but noooooope, actually it was Obito all along. But wait, he was just taking the role of Madara until Madara is revived.
So we think that's when the story ends but hey? you know what this series needs? more derailment. Let's have Kaguya show up for a min or two. Now what? Oh yeah, we're suppose to end it with Naruto fighting and winning over Sasuke.
So it isn't that Hyuga was hyped, the story development was done on the fly (get-go, improvised, whichever word you want to use)
Compared to members from his clan, most likely only less then or equal too Haishi and ahead of all the other members (solos Hinata). If we ranked him and his peers or generation he's defiantly at the top. He should've gotten Hamura's chakra imo

Hiashi > Fugaku. Both clan leaders, both never referred to as prodigies.
One has a defense on par with Gaara's sand/Susano'O, has top-notch taijutsu and can compensate for any failures with Chakra emitions or chakra bursts, can destroy ninjutsu, and closes off access to Chakra with a few pokes, and sent a Bijuu-sized object flying.
The other has a big fireball and illusions.

Defense on par with Gaara ctfu. Let me know when rotation can take on five Mokuton enhanced Susano'o blades from Madara at the same time.

Oh, its the guy who thinks one Sharingan has the same insight as two Byakugan.
I bet he posts something about Juubi mokuton spikes or Juubi tail slaps, as if those things compare.
Kakashi has proven himself with one 3T far more times than any Hyuuga with two Byakugan, and he's not even an Uchiha.
Depends on your definition of insight.

I wouldn't say that. They're definitely more powerful than the average shinobi.
The problem is that anyone notable already is anyway.
In regards to what?
Lmao savage. Just hate this retard wank is all.
Dude is an idiot, I never said sharigan was superior in insight, I said because sharigan couldn't see through Kakuzu's mask, byakugan cannot as well until facts are shown it can vs Kakuzu.
Analysis via Doujutsu. Innovation via Doujutsu. Doujutsu power. Doujutsu versatility. Doujutsu mastery.
The Byakugan essentially has 2 jobs while the Sharingan has around 7, and yet Kakashi, as a non Uchiha and while only possessing one eye, surpassed all portrayed Hyuuga in the manga.
Kakuzu: Overall bad match up. Kakuzu's hearts would get destroyed with one poke, threads are perfect for channeling Chakra to Kakuzu's body if he attempts to grab or strangle Neji, elemental attacks can be shielded and reflected by Rotation or simply avoided, the mask monsters are also hearts, so tey also get one-shotted. Assuming Kakuzu doesn't go all out from the start, like with Kakashi, Neji could easily destroy a good handful of his hearts before he decides to pull them out.
Konan: Rather featless from my memories outside of her prepared fight with Obito. She definitely loses.
Hidan: With intel, there shouldn't be much of an issue with Neji taking out Hidan. Neji can keep himself at a safe distance and would be able to easily avoid Hidan's scythe thanks to his Byakugan and based on his feats against Kidomaru. Wouldn't be impossible for him to intercept the scythe and get rid of it, leaving Hidan completly vulnerable. From there, it would be a simple matter of pumping his body full of Chakra until he explodes. I chakra point being closed would mean no Curse technique, and Neji's speed is on par with Lee's so he's not getting blitzed by Hidan at all.
Deidara: Restricting C0, Neji could easily disarm his bombs by injecting them with chakra in place of using Lightening to difuse them. All of the insight we saw Sasuke display against Deidara would be available to Neji as well, to a much better degree in fact. Only real issue with Neji is that he can't reach Deidara if he flies, so unless he can jump that high, he probably loses simply because he won't be able to touch Deidara. If he can jump high enough to reach Deidara, then he beats him.
Sasori: Chakra strings would easily be destroyed by Gentle Fist, so he can render his opponents useless. He can also use the strings to channel Chakra to Sasori's heart. Puppeteers are also said to be horrible in CQC, and with Neji's speed that rivals weightless Lee's, he can easily close the gap between them and destroy Sasori close up. As for Hiruko, with the amount of force his Rotation displayed in the war, it's possible it could be damaged and destroyed with it. Posion needles and iron sand could also be repelled in this manner.
Don't care to argue this even though I disagree. Only talking about the claim that just because Kakashi's Sharingan failed against Kakuzu's masks, somehow that means the Byakugan, which is far superior in insight, will.
