How strong is Hiashi Hyuuga? Is he stronger than Itachi?

Well friends... Hello! As the title says, is Hiashi Hyuuga really as strong as people make him out to be? He looked extremely weak in his fight with Hizashi (who is also weak). I don't get it, why do some people say he is even stronger than Itachi? Is this true? I don't know much about this character. Even though he looked weak, can someone explain to me why people say he is stronger than Kage (or almost Kage) level characters like Kakashi, Gui, etc, and even stronger than Itachi? Now, at last, I want to tell you all that someone even said he would have destroyed the 6 Paths of Pain if he was in the village when the attack happened. I disagree with this, but oh, well. Honestly, I feel that Sharigan is > Byakugan being that it's good for Chakra but Sharigan is more than that.
