How smart is Obito Uchiha?

We know that he wasn't all that intelligent in the beginning of his life, but at age 14 he showed a talent for oratory, contingency planning, back-up planning, charisma, and manipulation.

I feel like he's the most underrated character when dealing with intelligence. Not even Madara showed this much intelligence when it came to planning and I doubt he was dull or stupid.

Anyone with an opposing opinion feel free to share, and maybe state who you think is the smartest character of all in the series. Maybe you could give a top ten?

I don't really think he was underrated. Obitos intelligence was never said to be lacking. He just wasn't on Kakashi's level as a kid or as an adult. But Kakashi is like top 3 in intelligence so it's not bad to be a little behind him. And yeah he was smart enough to convince Itachi too. So there ya go.

I believe Madara was comparing the fact that Sasuke had a Rinnegan and the Eternal Mangekyo in comparison to Obito.

Sasuke recognize Uchihas as being the smartest and even Madara knows that Obito is intelligent. His problem was that at the time his skills weren't good enough like Kakashi and his taijutsu use to suck as a kid. So when his sharingan appeared, his skills refined a lot better. I'm yet to see an Uchiha that's an actual idiot, Pierrot Studio made that whole crap up of Obito being an actual idiot.

Compared to narutos generation as kids Obito was pretty good. He could use elemental jutsu at a young age. A feat that Kakashi was surprised at, when Sasuke performed it at the same age.

As for his childhood, i think it has more to do with his lack of self stem than his inteligence or powers.
