Oh well he was definitely trolled. And just because you're strong and experienced doesn't mean you can't be killed easily. Oro's not stupid, I'm sure he had things planned out juuuuust right so that the Kazekage died quickly and without struggle.

When Oro went against the Hokage he did a full on battle because he wanted to humiliate the Hokage as well as kill him. Didn't work out too good for him.

And oro himself said that these all happened thanks to kimimaro.

Orochimaru has interest to kill him because he will take DNA and use 4th like Edo. I think Orochimaru saves DNAs from strong shinobis like 4th Kazekage and many others to use them.
Probably Kabuto use DNAs that Oro takes and others just dug them out of the tombs
