Bit of a big and intelligent topic today guys.

So we all followed Naruto, the story that developed into a message about unity and peace. It's major villains are tragic outliers who all have their own way of achieving a peace. It's handling of war and peace were amazing and maturely handled at times but ultimately it only managed to really scrape the surface of the true topic and themes that come with being a messiah and a pacifist. I feel like Naruto couldn't actually exist and adheres to too many shonen-main character cliches to be identifiable to an actual reader or a real life messiah.

He's a role model sure but that's about it, Naruto would truly struggle in our world and we through the birds-eye-perspective of this Ninja World (a luxury that comes from being a reader) we use the Shinobi World as a microcosm of our own, that distance we have allowing us to think about themes and judge everybody equally. Ultimately- the peace theme becomes somewhat two-dimensional through Naruto by the end of the series- that said I still appreciate it & try to live day by day with the meaning of that story in mind- even if it may not be applicable to my world and it's issues.

A LOT of my fiction is about these themes. Being the better man, uniting the world, finding out what 'peace' truly is. Korra deals with Anarchy, Monarchy, Communism, Theocracy & Fascism. It's teen-adult fiction in a fantasy world where adult real world themes are being used. Korra learns that beating the bad guys doesn't make the threats to her short-sighted vision of peace go away. That the world needs equality, these stories promote understanding, not condoning war....So why is the reality so very different Is it different? Or have we just not come as far as a society as those ones yet?

The artist and the soldier will always be different roles but as an everyday society, ARE we above this? I'm sure many of us know that violence begetting violence is a flaw, just as it is in our fiction. But then I look around and i'm not so sure. How do we use these solutions that fiction has taught to us through example- and apply it to real life? I don't know. That scares me. Yet our Government and societies answer- ultimately seems to be retaliation, something that simply doesn't feel right.

Does the bigger picture exist on a real world universal scale? Or are we naive trying to apply a narrative to real life?

You'd be surprised how much fiction can teach us about contemporary issues. There's no shame in feeling driven or motivated by pieces of fiction. It's what they're there for. But to what degree can we follow their example and message?

Lola and Charlie influenced me way more than I'd like.
But I don't really let fiction influence me a bit, considering
everything is all rolled out from 1 person or few, usually with the
unavoidable success of the good guys no matter what method they take.

Very true. Mainstream fiction is still limited to conventions such as these that sometimes limit it. Naruto wins because he's the main character, world peace was an afterthought of this series that sort of happened around him. Real life doesn't have a main character and everybody thinks they are the protagonist of their own stories- on a personal level to national level.

Manga as fiction is least of my concern. Novels all the way!

I'm the antagonist.

Fiction is my life it influences me a lot but that is another story

In the war of couse only Fictions without a Main Characters at all can relate because a Main Characters is like the reason why a fiction will never get close to the real world for really really everyone is sscrewed and no one wins by some surprise

I eould say some things of Fiction teach us but some not really

But the real wolrd problem has more issues and is harder to deal with

In fiction the peace is more possible but well

I say Fiction is life regardless

And yet i'd say certain pieces of influential art and some fictional characters have changed the world for the better or enlightened it. James Bond has buried the role of a spy in actual real life- espionage is no longer a paranoid concern of todays society. That's just the first example I can think of.

Yeah i agree but i think it only helps us if the concept of the story is realistic

For example Naruto helps more for real life than Ichigo or Goku

Most fiction are created taking substances from the real world so there's little influence though real world is a much tougher place you need more than fiction to live through it .

All I gotta say is Monkey D. Luffy, the man is about freedom and adventure, enjoying the journey while not worrying about the destination which can translate into life and death. People are always debating life after death or thinking about their deaths, at the end of the day it doesn't matter and the simple mindset shift to enjoy life will save you alot of worries, bs and drama. To follow your dreams even if there is a chance you will fail, at the end of the day we want what we want because we believe it will give us fulfillment. Life isn't as complicated as we make it out to be, but the most important thing is your freedom, living life on your terms. Without freedom everything else you do gets corrupted and in most of the world people feel stuck in their lives, chained to the world they experience everyday which could be quite different if they changed their perception. Naruto taught me to never give up no matter what, that hatred creates more hatred, war creates more wars. Looking at it, you think it should be common sense yet it flies under everyones radar. Luffy complemented Naruto's lesson by teaching me to not be attached to the outcome and things in general.

Luffy may not be a realistic or a complex character but his simplicity is incredibly admirable and my favourite part of that show.

What is unrealistic about his character? Personally, it doesn't get more real than Luffy and don't bring up Boa Hancock lol.
