I met the CEO of an internet-based business this morning. She was telling me about her company, how she got started, etc. and happened to mention just what her website is capable of tracking when you visit it. It tracks, what pages on their site you visit, how long you remain on that page and even the pages you visited before clicking on the site at all.

My question is does NB do tracking to this level? Or any tracking at all?

Would they tell you? :|
Must be stated in the terms of service, no?

OT: Well, perhaps some of the policies in the terms of service may by implication guarantee such actions. Though, I don't see how they would make use of it. I mean, I could list my favorite porn sites asar.:lol

No.. She is bullshitting you, unless she works for Google, she cannot track what websites you visited prior to visiting hers.
I don't think so, she came across as honest and it sounded as though she'd seen the information herself. There is a chance if she didn't that she may have been wrong, as she did mention that she knew almost nothing about the technical parts of the business and outsourced them.

I find it hard to believe that only Google would have access to that information though, any reason I should take your word over hers?

Oh look, I think they already did:
Oh, there you go I guess that's answered.

From my knowledge, pretty much everything from YouTube to quick a search on your browser is tracked by Google since its's owned by them, and Google will not share your history or personal data to anyone except for info you agree to share, unless someone sends you a virus to allow them to hack your computer, thats another story

Well I've recently started my own website, and I can see which IPs visited which page. It's a service my webhost provides, and different webhost may offer more/less detailed visitor statistics, though I'm not sure. I haven't been doing this long enough to know what's the standard. I have seen offers from companies that would supposedly allow me to use more advanced tracking, but I never looked into it.

Almost all of what you said sounds reasonable, basing it on the little experience that I have. All but seeing which sites you visited beforehand.
