"Aura" take up? I mean a constant flow of say black lightning around a person. Kinda like a lightning shield that can be manipulated to be an extension of the body. Think chidori true spear to a higher degree.

I think it should logically be quite exhausting because you have to keep it up constantly. Maybe depends on the shield you're using and most importantly how you use it

True, but Gaaras auto-defense doesn't use up chakra. I think a lot of this depends on the person in question. For example Kakashi wouldn't be able to keep up a *lightning aura* for very long, but someone like A and the Third Raikage probably could. The Raiton armor itself is an aura of sorts if you really think about it, it's just used more for defensive purposes rather than offense.
