You know a tree is solid. Its 100% tree all the way through. Given the size of that tree, cutting mountains would be easier. You would have to somehow find away to cut it with such velocity that what you were using would not catch, bind, and slow. Trees are also wet, meaning it adds to absorbing impact. Edit: This is also a chakra stealing tree... sooo there is that too.

Tell ya what, find a rock (15 lb rock or so) put it on a something equally hard, then hit it with a sledge (heavy as you can handle) I bet ya you will crack or smash it in a few blows.
