I mean for example, even straight people seem to celebrate same ***-marriage getting legalized. However, how much of the stuff you hear in the news about the state or a group of people actually have an effect on your personal life? Is your life so empty you're trying to care about things that mean absolutely nothing to you? I realize I've kinda been doing the same thing, as far as only observing things but not to the point where you're so passionate about it that it becomes your life and identity. I've noticed the news is like a never ending series and before you know it people have latched onto the next thing. It's all a distraction from life itself, so while I'm asking you how much of what you hear is actually important to you in your life. I'm also going to make a point from today to cut myself off anything and everything irrelevant to my life and happiness.

We're on the same boat, I almost never watch news or tv but it has been replaced by the internet. So I really need to cut myself off from stupid news and politics I watch and read.

So you want ppl to have a completely self centered view on life and only worry about things that directly apply to them? :|
I am not saying that is wrong seeing how that nonchalant attitude fits me to a T, but if you don't pay attention to the world around you then things can end up happening later that you don't want and could have possibly prevented.

If there is something happening in my country that is big enough to impact me directly then I would know about it. However, we're only interested because of what it can do for us. We're already self-centered because all actions are ultimately self serving if they're rational.

Just because something doesn't affect you doesn't mean it isn't personal.
For example the fight gay marriage is a human right, as a human it is a fight for you as well. The fact that someone can watch the mistreatment of other humans is completely selfish. Straight people get into pride because we have friends and family who are apart of this community and witness the hardships first hand, so we want to help. Just because it's not me who's gay doesn't mean is not personal. If all white people felt the way you do slavery would have never ended.

I don't care about things that do not concern me directly, but that doesn't mean I don't enjoy seeing it on the news or reading it on the internet. I always keep up with the news around the world, regardless if it affects me or not ( it doesn't 99% of the time).

I rarely care about stuff that's on the news because 90% of the time it's a lie or it's simply not researched.
As for things that I can read that have actual sources and some information backing it, yes I will care then.

I do care about society, though I'm just too lazy to act and show that I do.
But I do want to become a doctor and work in poorer countries, so I guess that's showing some interest in society lol.

So yeah, in general I care.

It's not a fight for me because I'm not gay and gain zero from supporting it in anyway.
It's more selfish to think people owe you their time and energy when they don't even know who you are.

This is true as well.

But I think you should at least consider things like this. Just by supporting someone or something that is mistreated, you can change countless lives for the better. Or at the very least, you could maybe make the world a little more suited for you.

You don't have to be the one being mistreated for it to matter, imagine if you or someone you loved were in that situation, or if you had a friend in a similar situation. Would you be content in letting them suffer, or potentially suffer? Your not a bad person for staying to your own life, but in my opinion, the idea of helping others is at least worth consideration.

Screw the news! but I think we should care about the world even if it doesn't affect us. You don't have to do anything but have some empathy. But I'm aware that the reality rn is a lot of people treat life as an egocentric journey.

We all just need to connect our chakras and stuff. Ninshuu okay.

If you only think about what you're going to get then I'd say that's way more selfish than fighting for people who don't know you. That's actually selfless.
You obviously have the wrong mindset.

The way I see it is, if there isn't a clear benefit for doing something then there is no reason to do it. Don't get me wrong, I give money to the homeless for example, when I can but at the same time, I realize I don't owe them shit and they've done nothing to deserve it. Especially when half of them would waste their money on alcohol and other dumb shit instead of food and clothes.

Not a good move imo, you don't want to be living under a rock. Even though it seems like most things don't pertain to you they actually do since you are apart of the community, society and world.

I'm not saying absorb everything you see but knowledge is power that may come in handy one day. Not to mention you always need to be aware or your surroundings.
