How many clans/groups did the Senju have?

Since it is stated Hashirama himself went out of his way to unite all his "diverse" and fractured people. And I hope we really do get to see this. Cause its kind of intriguing.

Maybe he attempted to have the uzumaki join him also?

But what do you think of this? How many different clans/groups do you think the Senju had? And what kind of diversity do you believe they had? And could this be the reason to Konoha's diversity?
