madara had a plan for the future by gaining hashi's cell when going to fight hashi, he only had ems. then he survived the fight and unlocked rinnegan. his plan was most likely how to get the rinnegan after reading the tablet with his ems. the sage of the six path was the only one with rinnegan besides madara
