naruto shippuden has been going on for a while now. (6 years now)
But how long has it been in the show a few months a year or more?
Its a pretty eventful year in the narutoverse isn't it?

Naruto's taken 6 months to create several A-S rank jutsu, learn Sage Mode & befriend Kurama.
Where all he learnt in 2 1/2 years with Jiraiya was a bigger Rasengan + Basic Genjutsu Release. :S

That doesn't add up? Naruto leaves aged 13, returns aged 15 1/2, later on turns 16 and now he's going to be 17 tomorrow in the manga?

I think Sakura didn't start saving the chakra until a year after Naruto left the village.

It's been 1 year and 6 months.

This sound more reasonable and remember Sakura had just started training with tsunade so she could not have start storing up chakra for the seal yet she had to first master medical ninjutsu and if you remember in the manga when she had a flash back when tsunade thought her the seal her hair had grown back when naruto left the village it was short. I think it has been about a year and half now since naruto return. Oh and here is a next clue not sure how strong it is but kurenai had her baby when we first saw her her belly was flat say about one or two months along, in the pain saga she was round like about 7 to 8 months and when the war started the baby was already born so nine months have had to have past since then..
