I think that people overrate this jutsu. Sure Izanagi is impressiv, but not like people actually think. That's why i'll try to explain how this jutsu really works, and will take Danzo as an example.
- Like Karin says here, Danzo can keep up his Izanagi only during one minute. After that minute, his Izanagi disappears and his eye closes alone:
- That means that when Danzo releases Izanagi, he is forced to attack during that time so that he could use his invincibilities time efficiently. So, that means also that if during the time Izanagi is activated, he does nothing or his opponent actually manage to survive or escape from him, he will lose his eye and Izanagi for nothing also.
- So during a fight when he uses Izanagi all along one after another(like during his fight against Sasuke for example), he could only maintain his Izanagi during almost 10minutes since he has 10sharingans
So at the end, Danzo is the one who must be skill enough to know how and when to use Izanagi and attack quickly after that. The opponent is not forced to kill him 10times like some people always say. It's Danzo the one who is forced to kill his opponent during that time.
PS: Now, it seems that the time you use Izanagi is not always the same, depending on the user, since Tobi managed to maintain his Izanagi against Konan during 5minutes at least or more.
Maybe i've forgotten some things, but at least i gave the most important part i've understood about this jutsu.
