Exactly, it would be impossible to top this villain. So if the manga tried to continue with Konohamaru's team who would end up as the main villain?
Where could they take the story that would make it original and not seem like a rehash of what we've already read? Would the story follow the reorganizing of the ninja world where they don't mold chakra, the tailed beasts no longer exist? How would a manga about ninjas during peace time be interesting without fighting? What would be the point?
The announcement was about the movie. I think it is a mistake to think it has anything to do with the manga. It could, but until we know more it is all speculation. There may be some cannon elements in it, but the Naruto movies were always stand alone projects with their own time line and story.
I'm ready for the story to end. All good things must come to an end.
God, I hope you're right. But did you watch the trailer/hear the announcements? They even mention that the Naruto story is reaching an epic conclusion, and that the movie is just the beginning of something greater. It really seems like they're referring to the manga/canon.
It wouldn't be that surprising if the story kept going with a poorly conceived main antagonist, I've seen it happen to plenty of stories. Avatar: The Last Airbender, after Fire Lord Ozai, had Korra's "antibender" people, which just felt odd and decidedly less epic than a 12-year-old going against the world's biggest, strongest nation. Korra's book 2 was ok, but still felt like milking. And do I have to mention DBZ GT?
Still, it's probably not Kishi's decision; He may not have a choice. I just hope that if this is in fact happening, it's at least still directed by Kishi, and that he doesn't just half-ass it.
