oh very different, his prime was stated in the manga (by the writer) and it was also stated that the old hiruzen (who took on a healthy oro/tsunade's superior) was a joke compared to his prime, also orochimaru stated that a 10 years younger hiruzen would beat him.

in conclusion a PRIME hiruzen EATS any of the sannins, jiraiya/oro/tsunade you name it. U_U

"healing jutsu" ?? last time i checked these were to healing not attacking so if you keep on getting hit and regenerating then you are nothing but a good/reliable punching bag.
her physical raw strength is the offensive destructive weapon...someone like hiruzen has no way of surviving her nor outlasting her....he's broken down and old...she is senju and uzumaki and anything he does she'll heal from it gg

Okay come on. All Tsunade has is superhuman strength and medical ninjutsu . No long range techniques, no offence, while Hiruzen is a master at taijutsu, ninjutsu and genjutsu plus Enma. This is more than enough for Tsunade

genjutsu? he hasnt shown any....taijutsu he's okay compared to tsunade, she's an expert in physical contact..

not godly but enough to beat someone like hiruzen that has nothing in his arsenal except RDS

Tsunade can tank his ninjutsu until he runs out of steam. Tsunade also has one of the largest chakra reserves bar Jinchuuriki, a contrast to Hiruzen who wasn't even in the state to create shadow clones. Hiruzen engages her in taijutsu, he dies, simply as that; she's slightly faster than him and much stronger than him.

Theres a reason why Lord First and Second trusted him to protect the future shinobi. They believed in his strength. I do too. Calling him weak is just like calling the Hokages stupid for choosing him. Why would they choose someone weak?

Hiruzen probably does have something that can stop Tsunades punches but the thing is Tsunade can probably throw punches for days. She's an Uzumaki and Senju descendant right so she would have a lot of endurance, Hiruzen wouldn't be able to last an hour in his part 1 condition.

But its the way some people are arguing on this thread. You have a really really old man probably near or in his 80's pitched against a probably 50 year old woman then boast about how Tsunade could woop his ass. Well of course, he's and old man and his battle against Orochimaru was deemed 'pitful' compared to his younger self.

i agree with this BUT, to be more accurate, jiraiya was DRUGGED in that fight to make it even (the writer wrote like that for a reason). and a some of oro's techs don't require handseals but i get your point.

Tell me, how does Hiruzen, with those chakra reserves of his, possibly stand a chance against the Godaime Hokage? He can't engage her in taijutsu as she's faster than him and a hit from her could kill him, making him resort to ninjutsu. All of his ninjutsu can be tanked as was Madara's Susanoo sword, and all it does is burn Hiruzen out. And once Hiruzen is burned out, what can he do against Tsunade?

I have come to understand that Hiruzen on the base is considered by most to be "fodder" I don't understand why he gets ranked so low especially if he didn't even get the chance to show his full abilities in the war yet. Shuriken Shadow Clone jutsu was just to analyze Obito's attacks. Also anyone saying he does not have an A rank technique is wrong. Shuriken Shadow Clone Jutsu IS an A rank technique

I find it hard to believe that someone whom both Hashirama and Tobirama believed in to protect the future shinobi could be weak.

Here is what I know
- 3rd person to earn the name "God of Shinobi. Surprisingly only 3 shinobi share this name. The SO6P, Hashirama Senju and Hiruzen Sarutobi. If Tobirama and Minato were strong, how come they never earned these titles. Hiruzen must have done something great in order to earn this nickname.

Even after Hiruzen had sealed parts of his soul away, fought for quite some time, diminished his chakra greatly with shadow clones, disarmed Orochimaru sword in close combat easily, and had the speed to sneak up in front of him and while having the sword of Kusangi pierced through him, he was still able to hold Orochimaru's soul with the Reaper for an 1 hour long.

Oh please! Tsunade can't even get close enough to land a blow.

According to the databook she's a 3.5 in speed and he's a 3, not to mention that decreases as he grows tired. All Hiruzen's attempts to hurt her will be tanked. Hiruzen will be forced to resort to ninjutsu because he is not beating Tsunade in taijutsu and he will burn himself out due to his piss-poor chakra reserves in comparison to Tsunade.

Majority of his hype is empty or is it retconned hype derived from part 1 which holds very little.

He is as close to the strongest hokage title as the land is to the sky.

EDIT: Hope he isn't dead though. Would be a shame if the only hype that he has still left standing; professor isn't put to use. He showed a glimpse when he deducted the workings of Obito's ninjutsu and even linked it with jinton. But for the man with the hype for mastery of ninjutsu, not to show any new ninjutsu before he dies is trolling. Then again this is kishi's manga
