She would've had a very interesting story if she actually changed. If we would've seen her hardening and becoming a real kunoichi during the years in and after the academy. As in, personally I totally would enjoy seeing a gentle and fragile girl become a merciless killer by the end of the manga, though still remaining the same person deep inside. That would be a perfect example of how cruel the shinobi world really is, it's a shame that Kishi never cared to do anything like this (development and so on) to anyone aside from the main heroes.

Thats the issue with her character, she never developed any further from the scared girl always watching Naruto.
As others said, Ino, chouji, Sakura and others didnt really seem like they were really into being Ninjas in part one, but even chouji had his moment with the soldier pills and becoming a butterfly in the War arc when facing Edo-Asuma.
Where is Hinatas moment of triumph on her own to truly overcome her adversity? In the invasion of Pein she only stands up to try and be with Naruto, in the War she only tries to defend Naruto which ultimately leads to Neji's death. Even back in the chuunin exams, she finishes her test and offers Naruto to copy off her. I cant even think of a scene where she does something on her own, and not for Naruto's attention.

They needed to address the Hyuga family and allow her to grow to take back her clan. I wanted to see an small story arc or Movie on her fighting her sister to abolish the class system they have. Not her knitting a scarf for Naruto in forced backstory.
