In an anime that you've watched, how far has the villain got to succeeding in his plan? If he/she didn't win that is.

Mine would have to be...Avatar: Legend of Korra,

Like others have said Light Yagami almost succeeded

Obito was mere minutes away from his dream world even if he regrets it that shit was almost on lock, Sensui from Yu Yu Hakusho was able to cap the main character and merge the human world with the demon world lol

Code Geass. Lelouch got everything he wanted.(although idk if you consider him the bad guy)
20th Century Boys. Friend followed his plan out exactly and practically won.(wasn't an anime but a manga)

I'd throw in Aizen in as well. He did become transcended, just didn't take out the soul king.
