How exactly does Fu's jutsu work?

I am not talking about Fu the jinchuuriki, rather I am referring to Fu, Danzo's bodyguard. So we know he is from the Yamanaka clan and uses trap "puppets" to use a mind transfer switch between his target and his opponent.

So if we look at these 2 panels we can see that the puppet threw a scythe at Ao, who caught it in his hand and used it to nail the puppet which was coming up behind him to attack. When Ao hit the puppet with that scythe, the seal on the puppet's forehead disappeared and the mind switch occurred, trapping Ao in the puppet's consciousness and giving Fu control over Ao's body.

So I have several questions regarding how the jutsu functions and what is necessary to catch an opponent in this type of trap.

1. If Ao had thrown one of his own kunai at the puppet instead of the scythe, would the trap still have worked? I'm not sure if the scythe itself was part of the jutsu, but since it was originally the puppet's weapon (not Ao's) I feel like this is a likely possibility.

2. Was Fu controlling the puppet with a mind transfer technique when he used it to attack Ao? It would make sense, except how can a mind transfer jutsu control an inanimate object like a wooden puppet? And how come, when Ao hit the puppet with a scythe, the same damage didn't appear on Fu's actual body? (with the mind transfer jutsu, the caster receives the same damage as the one he is controlling)

Here are my two cents:

1. It had to have been his own scythe, it would be weird if any weapon could have been used to trigger his jutsu and that would sound OP.

2. I guess that puppet was special in the sense that it could be controlled. I don't think we have seen any puppet like that or even that seal before. The puppet + scythe were made specifically for this jutsu.

I think tthe scythe was a distraction.

Fu is from the yamanaka clan, able to transfer their mind into others. So he used both puppets to get close. He threw the scythe to break Ao's concentration and threw his mind in Ao.
