How exactly did Madara survived ET release ?

They couldn't because the link to Orochimaru was still there. Itachi had already released Kabuto's Edo Tensei and Madara knew the seals, so he bounded himself with the seals to Edo Tensei. Orochimaru didn't cancel his own Edo's.

He didn't really break out of it. If I remember Naruto destroyed it with his Rasenshuriken and Edo Tensei regenerate Chakra really fast.
