Explosives tags are commonly infused with chakra. They will explode after a set amount of time, remotely (via handseals), or after being ignited by flame.

Instead of doing seal with hand and mold up chakra requirement for it, ninja can just draw out the seal on the tag and throw it. But the chakra for like explosive tag can either mold up the moment it being thrown or the chakra has already implement on the explosive tag before the event.
Also it could be activated like firework, the seal being draw longer than usually then the fire will burn the longer part until only the seal left to display will explode

Just like how Kabuto draw seal / unleash the seal on Orochimaru hand/wrist to summon Manda, the chakra was obivous taken from Orochimaru the moment Manda was summoned.
About trap in Gaara rescue arc, the seal was being concealed and when team Gai open it triggered like they are doing shadow clones and take half of chakra from them.
