How does someone expend all their Chakra?

How can someone expend all their chakra and die? Because aren't the chakra gates limiting the amount of chakra coursing through the body, so if someone was close to running out of chakra shouldn't the body automatically unlock at least one gate to make sure they don't die. This just seems like the logical thing for the body to do. Am I missing something?

Or is it that as you start running through your chakra the gates let some of the limited chakra out as you use the chakra?

gates only increase theflow of chakra not the amount..the amount of chakra remains constant, in gates the chakra still remains in your body, just extreme flow rate,...chakra is expelled wnen it is used to careate a ninjutsu or genjutsu

You don't get the idea of chakra gates and chakra, do you ? Well let me explain, chakra gates are those which allows the flow of chakra through them which limits the strength of a person, when all gates are opened the flow of chakra becomes like waterfall and since a user have limited amount of chakra, when it all flows out the persons dies, so for opening all the gates you need training to master them, now as far as your question is concerned its not like the gates are something like storage cells of chakra, as the name suggest they are gates which allows the flow of chakra. Nope, you need chakra to use taijutsu as well like Leaf Whirlwind or something similar, and that's the case, however when you open the Gates as you mentioned then yes you don't use chakra to use a jutsu but only around your body.
