How does it work?

Does he sweat between his hands, until it reaches unbearable pressure, then he pushes so fast that it reaches its intended destination before detonating?
Or does he wrap the ball in a bubble of chakra that houses it before it explodes?

"After opening the seventh of the Eight Gates, the user places a palm facing forward in front of their face with one hand and then taps it with his other hand, formed into a fist, which creates a massive amount of air pressure. Next, the user forms a unique hand seal resembling a tiger, which launches the air pressure at the opponent in the shape of a tiger, by leaving a gigantic tiger-shaped impression into the initially built-up air pressure with the hand seal. The air pressure will condense as it's moving and be focused into a single point. The technique then explodes on command, releasing the built up air pressure in an instant. A massive concussive explosion is created which can be felt a significant distance away.[2]"

simple. He goes into the 7th gate, the punches ridiculously fast once with the back part of his fist followed by a flat hand. This becomes a pressure wave that shoots at the enemy. He then follows up by making a tiger with his hands that he uses his chakra to mold the attack into. He then guides it at the opponent and it compresses more and more until it lands creating a massive instant shockwave. questions?

cool. Why do people say he used hirudora in base form vs edo madara? It seems impossible because 7th gate speed/strength is required..

because it shows him in base form exhausted, then suddenly uses it against madara. people use his exhaustion as evidence that he was in base form. Actually it proves that he WASN'T. He was tired in base form, and gates give an energy boost. they leave you more tired and hurt later, but give you energy. Its your energy, use it when you need it.

Hirudora is pure shock wave produced from extreme hand movements that even sharingan can't see =D

It almost sounds like a mixture of ninjitsu and taijutsu.
As if the tiger seal (ninjitsu aspect) maintains the pressure, and shrinks as its chakra is depleted, then once the tiger completely dissolves the explosion (taijutsu portion) happens.
