How Does A Shinobi Get His/Her Kekki Genkai??

If a ninja is born with a kekki genkai that isn't a dojutsu, how does that ninja know? How does that ninja acquire it? Im pretty sure that those that are born within their clan with one isn't know to have one right off thr back. I mean if the opposite were true, wouldn't Hashirama have been a main target? Back when Hashi was explaining his flashback, he showed no signs of mokuton. Im guessing neither he nor anyone else knew he had it. My question is how does a shinobi know that he/she is blessed with a kekki genkai?

Haku kind of awakened his kekkai genkai through anger (when his dad killed his mom)

It's usually through emotional trauma (Sharingan, Ms, etc)

Or, you just know from you're parents, others from you're clan, learn how to use it yourself

Cause it's genetic too! Even if you have this element and this element, a shinobi still has to infuse his/her chakra into the formation. If you don't have the genes for it, the desired combination cannot occur.

Sasuke originally has Fire element coz hez a Uchiha.However,he also has Lightening element[chidori].
