How do you rank characters.

Simple question... How do you rank characters in terms of overall ranking in the Narutoverse? What sources do you use, and why do you use these sources instead of others? And what importance do you hold these sources in? Ive seen people use many different sources as well as ignore many different sources.

Me personally I rank characters based on, in this order of importance,

1. Manga feats/Hype
2. Databook (Statement and Stats)
3. Overall Matchup/Versatility

Also do you think if someone can defeat someone, should they be ranked higher than said person. I dont always think so.
Ex. I say Zabuza defeats Hidan, yet would have Hidan higher on a ranking list.

Almost no one pays attention to the databook. I base what they do off feats and strengths/weakness.

Matchup/versatility is the best and most efficient way and then you can add feats in there to separate those who are alike and very close.

I think through all the scenarios look at the movesets and how they use their abilities and put a and b together.

When i'm making top 10s though I use tiers, ranking instead by how many ninja they could defeat rather than 1v1. Because yeah sure Hidan can technically beat Hanzo but does that make really him stronger? I focus less on individual matchups and more on their placement in the Ninja foodchain as a whole.

Tbh Kishimoto probably doesn't use a list format to rank the characters, he probably does more a tier thing. I would love to see what his rankings would be once the series ends

Personally, I use feats primarily. If I can't decide with that and I think 2 characters are equal, I think of how they would match up with each other and if I can't use that, I use hype (and if not that then I tie them). I never use the databook because it's out of date and over-exaggerates things (and the people who do use it don't even use it right and take things out of context).

I dont understand why some ignore the Databooks completely. I think they are a good tool for helping evaluate a character and their abilities.
