It is spelt and americans pronounce it as Van Hellsing (like a car) and this is how most of the world says his name But... the dutch, and the people in the movie pronounce's his name as Von hellsing (which i think is the correct use of his name) because thats how they speak it in native tongue.

I ask because i want to change my Xbox gamertag but i dont want people calling me Van (like a car lol)...
should i just spell my name as Von to keep dummys from screwing up my name prononciation? because if i spell his name properly they will call me Van (like a car)...

You should change your name to Lead Zeppelin. See how many people pronounce it incorrectly (hence the reason it's Led and not Lead).

OT: I'm American, so I say Van (like the car) Hellsing.

Van Helsing is correct. Von is for German names.

Source: German - American

Does it matter if someone screws up the pronunciation?

my name is Devaughn so i want my gamertag to rhyme and be similar to my real name... I cant do that if people call me Van (like a car)

guess ill spell it Von lol

Well it would be neat if you used Von! I know at least in German Von is from! So From Hellsing sounds pretty cool!!

I usually say his name as Van (car) though. When it is in that context I don't even think about the car version lol!

Van Helsing is a German name...

Even if the character is supposed to be German, 'van' is used to say 'from' in Dutch. 'Von' is used to say 'from' in German.
(also von means you were 'allegedly' nobility)

In Dutch, it is pronounced Vàn Hellsing
The only difference is the pronunciation of the 'Van'. Like in Van Gogh :p

Here you can actually listen to the pronunciation:
