For the Protagonist:
I love - For the Protagonist to be clueless, but very smart. Like Shinichi and Kaito from Detective Conan.

Or Cloud(From FF7)- He's not hooked on the past to where it keeps coming up, but with a lot of regret in his life.

I hate - Emotional type ones. They make for better story imo, but I hate people obsessed over their past. Still got love for Naruto and Sasuke.

For the Antagonist:
I love - The ones that portray themselves as "God"! Or a "Will Breaker" like Madara.

I hate - Ones that kill for fun, have no reason whatsoever.

The "I hate" for an antagonist is none existent.

What I am trying to say here is that if a story actually had an antagonist that went around killing for no reason then there are two options. Either the story and plot are terrible or the story and plot are terrible. There is always a bigger objective psychologically. Don't over look them, or you are going to have a bad time.

A better version is "People that kill for fun"

IMO that's the same killing people without a reason. Like Cell or Buu from DBZ. Don't get me wrong, I love DBZ.(Not the Buu Sagas or GT).

I love my protagonists to have some sort of vice or something that makes them a less than desirable character (basically I like antiheroes), can't think of any anime examples.

I hate my protagonists to be purely moral and good characters who do no wrong and exhibit perfect discipline in every aspect of their actions.

I love antagonists to be selfish, working towards their selfish goals, have no concern for the well being of anyone, Like Orochimaru.

I hate when an antagonist thinks that what they're doing is going to be good for the world in some sick twisted way, like Tobi and Nagato before Naruto talk no jutsu'd him.
