How do you get out of the sewers in Sonic Adventure (Dreamcast version)?

Okay I just got the light speed shoes inside the sewers and the game tells me that I need to charge enough power to be able to perform a light speed dash so that I can zip up a set of rings and exit through an opening above the sewer's ceiling.

Here's the problem, whenever I perform the dash, Sonic just runs by and collects the first two sets of rings and then completely ignores the third ring which is just right above him.

What do I do? I can't progress any further. I read some guides and they aren't any help at all. Anyone here a SA expert?

You need to run a little before you can use full power. Also you need to jump of course. There might be kinda jumper or something there. Dattebayo!
