If she's someone you see or will see regularly, then you can always wait to talk to her for the first time when she's not with her friends. Might take a lot of pressure off you. After the first time, you can always approach her even in the midst of her friends and she won't be too stuck up.

But if you mean someone you likely won't meet by chance like that often, then you have to man up and go say hello and talk even in the midst of her friends. She'll likely put up a tough facade coz she has a point to prove to her friends, but it'll be totally worth it.

A conversation starts with hello and whats up? After few words, all will come naturally if you know enough words and topics from reality, movies, books. Btw, books about the art of the conversation are plenty.
And try to enjoy the comversation, this is not somthing to act.
