I'm curious because everyone I know is talking about it but.. aren't there like 700 manga chapters ?! How do you ever get into it? Is One Piece almost ending or is it still going strong? What would you guys recommend me, the manga or the anime? Thanks.
Everyone talks about it because it is so awesome. I watched the anime first, but there are a few problems with the anime. The beginning can seem like it has no point, and the story progression is very slow at first. Also the animation isn't the best, but you do have to account for it being so 15 years old.
The anime does cut out some really gruesome things kids shouldn't be watching also. The other thing is the pacing. near the 250+ episode mark, the pacing becomes 1 episode for 1 chapter. They stretch scenes out to fill an episode. With Naruto it was done with 2 chapters for 1 episode, and they used flashbackes in every chapter to extend the time.
With that said the anime is really awesome. Watch it in sub. The voice actors are so damn amazing. They really portray the feelings the the crew.
If you want to catch up, read the manga. It will be much faster. I say just enjoy it and read it in bits and pieces. It isn't a race. I will warn you though, once you get hooked, you won't be able to stop before you caught up. It is that good.
