How do I beat Virgil dmc

How? The 2012 one btw. I get his health just about gone and that doppelgänger shows and blocks everything I throw at em. What's up with that?

Use Devil Trigger then finish him off.

Edit : if your DT bar is empty just hit the Doppelganger until your DT bar is filled.

You can't rely on the same thing to beat him. He's similar to those masked guys in the sense that you aren't able to use the same power to beat him. You have to keep changing up your combos, and if I'm not mistaken all you have to do once you've knocked down to the last sliver of health is to grapple him or something and then it goes into cut scene. Hopefully this helps. Haven't played this game since it came out.

On side Note - If his health is just getting regenerated every time you kill him even with Devil tiger,then my friend,just restart the game from desktop again,'cause the loop defect has kicked in.

Just learn his attack pattern then combo his ass when you get the opportunity. To end the fight though you do have to be in devil trigger mode for plot purposes.
